Red Panda Tails of Wealth Aims to Break Down Barriers in Gaming
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has launched Red Panda Tails of Wealth, the first slot game in Canada designed specifically with accessibility in mind. This new release is intended to open the doors to casino gaming for millions of players living with disabilities.
A Familiar Format, Made Inclusive
At a glance, Red Panda Tails of Wealth looks like any traditional online slot — colourful visuals, classic gameplay mechanics, and standard slot features. But behind the surface, the game is packed with enhancements aimed at improving access for users with visual, motor, or cognitive challenges.
Features include a high-contrast colour palette to aid visibility, screen reader compatibility for blind or low-vision users, and keyboard navigation support for those who may not be able to use a mouse. A newly developed accessible heads-up display (HUD) has also been introduced, which will serve as a foundation for future accessible game development.
Responding to a Largely Ignored Audience
According to OLG’s Chief Gaming Officer Dave Pridmore, the project is the result of a targeted effort to prioritize accessibility from the ground up.
“This game is a proof of concept that shows how removing barriers to play can move us towards a more inclusive future in the gaming industry,” Pridmore said.
The move is a strategic one. Ontario’s population sits at over 16 million, and nearly one in three residents identifies as having a disability. That translates to roughly 4.5 million people who often find themselves shut out of the typical online gaming experience. With Red Panda Tails of Wealth, OLG is directly addressing this gap and aiming to bring more players into the fold.
Built in Collaboration with Accessibility Experts
The slot was developed through a partnership with Pixiu Gaming and Light & Wonder Spark, alongside Fable — a Toronto-based company that specialises in digital accessibility. Fable connects product teams with people who have disabilities to provide insight throughout the design and development process.
Kate Kalcevich, Head of Innovation at Fable, praised the collaboration.
“We’re thrilled to partner with OLG, who recognise the importance of embedding the voices and experiences of people with disabilities throughout the development of their new game,” she said.
More Than a Game — A Step Forward
While Red Panda Tails of Wealth marks a notable technical achievement, it also signals a cultural shift in the gaming sector — one where accessibility isn’t treated as an afterthought, but as a core part of design.
With this release, OLG isn’t just offering a new way to play; it’s delivering a message that inclusion matters — and that the casino experience should be open to everyone.
