Last Thursday marked the beginning of the first phase of legal mobile sports wagering in Rhode Island. The Twin River brand announced a soft launch of its product, allowing players wanting to bet on sports via mobile devices to take advantage of the opportunity. To do so, they first need to visit the Lincoln-based Twin River Casino to activate their account. After that initial action, they will be allowed to wager anywhere within state borders.
At present, this is the only location where players can activate their mobile sports betting accounts. Twin Rivers’ Tiverton Casino will soon be launching the option, but no date has been confirmed just yet.
According to the Rhode Island Department of Revenue, it will be monitoring the Twin River Lincoln launch closely. If all goes well, the authority will allow the start of an advertising campaign to promote the product.
Other licensed operators may also offer mobile sports betting, on condition that they run the Sportsbook Rhode Island app which was developed as a joint collaboration between different entities. The app got input from Twin River Worldwide Holding, William Hill, International Game Technology and Rhode Island Lottery.
Land sports betting is already a fixture in Rhode Island after it went live last November. At present, it is available at two locations – the Tiverton Casino Hotel and Twin River Casino in Lincoln.
